//RACE REPORT: SITP 2023 #02
// For this round the Spring in the Park Race Team were faced with the Time Trial or ‘Race of Truth’.
Under 8s
Little Lola was in a stacked field of U8 boys and girls. Steam-rolling her way to the win in the girls field, Lola also recorded a time quicker than five of the boys! This must have been motivation for young Elias as he too was in the U8’s race but held his nerve to come home fifth fastest of the boys.
Under 10s
The U10’s saw Lucas, Tejus and Kien take to the start line. After setting off at a blistering pace, Tejus unfortunately faded. Coming back into the racing fold after a bit of time out, Kien seemed to struggle with gear selection when coming up the hill! With moves reminiscent of Alberto Contador climbing Alpe d’Huez in the Tour De France it was left to Lucas to demonstrate to the rest that a TT is about a measured, constant effort where body positioning is key. Lucas taking the Limited Edition Cycling honors, followed by Tejus and Kien respectively.
Under 12s
As usual, Riley and Edie were the U12’s representatives. Edie found a nice rhythm and looked smooth on the bike, however by lap three, pain was etched on her face. Coming up the finish straight cries of ‘release the badger!’ mustered up one final effort as Edie sprinted for the line. Job done.
Not renowned for his time trialing, the plan for this race was to be damage limitation for Riley. That said, Riley produced an excellent measured effort to come home fourth behind a podium of VCL riders who were always going to be a cut above everyone else in the TT. Taking the ‘best of the rest’ crown, Riley was extremely happy with himself!
Under 14s
A sole representative in the U14’s was Ana. A daunting task lay ahead as the clouds rolled over and the weather started to turn. Not fazed, Ana stuck to the task and showed the younger riders she had been listening to her coaches! Displaying the best TT body position of the day she clearly set an example to the rest. Chapeau Ana!
